OXFORD FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIPS
Oxford Foundation Fellowships are designed as short-term, independent study opportunities for established academics and ministry professionals desiring to take advantage of residency and research facilities in Oxford, England. Foundation House/Oxford, an educational program of the Graduate Theological Foundation, sponsors several Oxford Foundation Fellowships annually, usually for short-term sabbatical leaves from the academy or parish, particularly targeted for topic-specific research in cognate areas of religious studies and theology. A personal identification pass to the Bodleian Library in Oxford is provided, and these Fellowships are under the general oversight of the Dean of Studies of the Foundation House program in Oxford. These Fellowships are competitive and limited in number.
FOR WHOM: These Fellowships are designed particularly to serve as postdoctoral study opportunities for academic faculty and those in ministry.
LENGTH OF STUDY: One to five weeks throughout the year and scheduled by prior arrangement with the Dean of Studies of Foundation House/Oxford through the Office of the President at the Graduate Theological Foundation.
ACCOMMODATIONS: Information regarding bed and breakfast accommodations is provided by the Foundation to recipients of these Fellowships upon notification of their appointment. Accommodation arrangements can be made online by the Fellowship recipient from information provided by the Office of the President. Payment for room and board is made directly to the accommodation facility by the Fellowship recipient.
ADMINISTRATIVE OVERSIGHT: The Dean of Studies of Foundation House/Oxford will welcome each new Fellow to Oxford and will arrange for a personal identification library pass to the Bodleian Library from Oxford University. However, the Dean is neither available for oversight nor supervision as the Fellowship is specifically for independent study based upon a topic-specific research proposal submitted in the application to the Foundation’s Office of the President. Each Oxford Foundation Fellow will receive an official identification card from the Foundation to be used during their stay in Oxford.
FEES: Oxford Foundation Fellows are required to pay an administrative service fee of $100.00 per week. Accommodation rates vary slightly, depending upon the venue selected by the Fellow. Travel costs and other meals are the responsibilities of the Fellowship recipient.
PUBLICATION: Scholarly papers published as a result of the Fellowship should indicate that the research was conducted under the Oxford Foundation Fellowship program of the Graduate Theological Foundation.
APPLICATIONS: The Application Form for Oxford Foundation Fellowships is available online here (Click here to open PDF file). Recipients of these Fellowships receive a Certificate of Appointment as an Oxford Foundation Fellow and a bronze-cast medallion.
