Islamic Studies Curriculum (M.Th., Ph.D.)

Tutors: Tutors are Imams approved for teaching at the Foundation by Imam Dr. Omar Shahin, Director of Islamic Studies and Professor of Islamic Law at the College. Students may recommend a tutor to Dr. Shahin for consideration and validation. Any tutor approved by Dr. Shahin may offer core curriculum courses for the Foundation. Please submit a nomination of tutor or venue to the Foundation for approval.

Cost: Each course costs $600 which is paid directly to the Foundation.

NOTE:
Two recommendation letters and 3 years experience are required for acceptance to any Masters Programs. Masters students need to submit a graduate thesis of a minimum of 140 pages (total of 20,000 words or more). A total of 12 courses (36 credit hours) are required for graduation. GTF will accept up to 8 courses taken in any accredited school in the same field with the approval of the head of the department, Dr. Omar Shahin. Master students should take at least 4 courses with GTF. A minimum of one full year must be spent to complete the Master's degree.

Ph.D. program Requirements:
1. Baccalaureate and Master's degree in Islamic Studies (or equivalent validated by a transcript) or comprehensive test.
2. Two recommendation letters by two recognized scholars.
3. Five years of accumulated experience in religious work within the Muslim community.
4. Ph.D. program students need to submit a Ph.D. thesis of a minimum of 175 pages total (35,000 words or more) with at least 25 bibliographic references.
5. Total of 8 courses (24 credit hours) required for graduation. GTF will accept up to 4 courses taken in any recognized school in the same field with the approval of the head of the department, Dr. Omar Shahin.
6. Ph.D. students should take at least 4 courses with GTF faculty.
7. A minimum of 18 months must be spent to complete the Ph.D. degree unless an exemption is given by the Director of Islamic Studies, Dr. Omar Shahin.
8. Completion of the Application Procedure.
