David Crabtree is Professor of Media Studies. Rev. Crabtree has spent the past 25 years working as a broadcast journalist. Writing, reporting, producing, editing and anchoring evening newscasts are staples of his career. Documentary work is his passion. He has reported from 40 of the 50 United States and a dozen foreign countries. Rev. Crabtree was stationed in Israel for the first Gulf War, covered elections in Nicaragua, the funerals of Pope John Paul II and Mother Teresa, and was part of the first team to document the Vatican in High Definition. Professor Crabtree's work documenting the housing of migrant workers in North Carolina won a 2006 DuPont Award from Columbia University. His work has also garnered ten EMMYS, a Gabriel and numerous state and regional awards, and he was named Journalist of the Year four consecutive years by the North Carolina Radio and News Directors Association. He is an ordained Deacon in the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. His ministry is focused in North Carolina’s death row and hospice care. Professor Crabtree completed undergraduate work at Middle Tennessee State University (B.S. 1972) and is currently working on a Master of Theology through the Graduate Theological Foundation.
