Marzia Hashem Dawlatzai is Professor of Women's Studies. Dr. Dawlatzai was born into a family of the Pashtun Tribe in Afghanistan. She holds the Master of Theology in Islamic Studies and the Doctor of Philosophy in Islamic Studies from the Graduate Theological Foundation. In 2007, she was awarded the Ibn Taymiyya Prize in Islamic Studies by the Foundation for her master's thesis entitled "Women In Islam." She holds a bachelor's degree from Kabul University in Kabul, Afghanistan, where she studied in the Faculty of Law. Dr. Dawlatzai works for a refugee settlement program for Africans and Afghans and is the representative of the Muslim community for the Advisory Board of the State of Arizona. She has owned businesses in the United States and for many years has been involved in volunteer projects for the Muslim community in the United States. She is currently working on a book of her poems in the languages of Pashto and Dari as well as a book about the life of Pashtun tribal women. Dr. Dawlatzai's areas of research and special interest are economic issues in Afghanistan, women in Islam, Afghan women and girls, and the education of poor young Afghans through the building of libraries and furnishing of school supplies.
