John C. Fenton is Distinguished Professor of New Testament Emeritus. He holds the B.A., M.A., and B.D. from Queen’s College, Oxford University, and is a priest in the Church of England. In 2001 Canon Fenton received the Doctor of Divinity degree from Lambeth Palace. He has been principal of Lichfield Theological College (1958- 1965) and on the faculty of Durham University (1965-1978). Since 1978 he has been a Canon of Christ Church, Oxford, and was formerly a Vicar of a parish in Yorkshire. A New Testament scholar of international repute, he has written such books as Preaching the Cross (1958); The Passion According to John (1961); Crucified with Christ (1961); Saint Matthew (Pelican Commentary 1963); Saint John (New Clarendon Bible Commentary 1970); What Was Jesus’ Message? (1971); Good News (1976); and Finding the Way Through John (1988).
