Richard Gilbert, Ph.D.

Richard Gilbert is John D. (Jack) Morgan Professor of Pastoral Psychology. He is also a member of the faculties of Mercy College (NY) and Benedictine University (IL) in the field of psychology. An Anglican priest, Dr. Gilbert holds a B.A. from Capital University and a Master of Divinity from Trinity Lutheran Seminary. He holds both the Doctor of Ministry and the Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the Graduate Theological Foundation with a dissertation entitled, “Healing the Holy Helpers: Healthy Clergy for the Third Millennium.” He is a Certified Thanatologist and serves as Credentials Chair of the Association for Death Education and Counseling and is a Diplomate in the American Academy of Experts on Traumatic Stress. Dr. Gilbert is a member of the American Counseling Association and the American Society on Aging and is review editor of the journal, Illness, Crisis, and Loss published by Baywood. A prolific writer, Dr. Gilbert’s books include HeartPeace: Healing Help for Grieving Folks (Abbey Press), Responding to Grief: A Complete Resource Guide, and Finding Your Way After Your Patent Dies: Help for Grieving Adults (Ave Maria Press). For Foundation students, he serves as a member of the doctoral defense panel, offers E-Tutorials, and functions as both project consultant and thesis supervisor.
