Frank Hanna is Professor of Mediation and Conflict Resolution. His career and experience spans over 35 years. Born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland, he first attracted public acclaim as a journalist and as a radio and television personality in the 1970's and 80's during The Troubles in Northern Ireland. Frank hosted documentaries, spearheaded investigative reports and helped people to "make sense" of the ever changing political landscape of Northern Ireland. His career followed that of his father, and in the early 1970’s Frank Hanna joined the law firm of Francis Hanna & Company where he eventually became the senior law partner and managed the firm for 25 years. His legal education was obtained at University College Dublin and Queens University of Belfast and he became a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Justice of Northern Ireland. Living through the terrorism of Northern Ireland and the often pyrrhic victories of litigation, Frank turned to mediation in the 1980’s to assist people in resolving problems instead of violence or lawsuits. He gained his formal education in mediation at Harvard Law School and Pepperdine in the 1990’s and eventually formed The Mediation Agency and ConflictAvoidance.com. Since that time, Dr. Hanna has become a much sought after mediator and is one of the most renowned teachers of mediation in the world. In 2003, Dr. Hanna wrote his first book, Conflict Resolution and Mediation in the Real World; described as bio-style, it follows his journey through both his career and raising a family during the urban war zone that was Northern Ireland. Dr. Hanna continues to explore new media to deliver his message of peaceful conflict resolution through mediation as a mediator, teacher and writer in the USA and abroad.
