
The Bachelor of Religious Education in Catechetical Studies is a unique program offered for teachers of catechesis including RCIA and CCD instructors. Though specific to the Roman Catholic tradition, anyone is welcome to pursue this degree. The entire degree may be taken in short-term residencies or online.
Two options are available for this degree in catechesis.
Option A: Online Degree Program Students must take the following specified courses from the identified venues of study. A student wishing to take a course not listed among the core courses or from an alternate venue may petition the Dean for a waiver. Note that all courses are online and average $75.00 each. The following courses are required to earn the Bachelor of Religious Education in Catechetical Studies.
Part II: Leap of Faith, Justice, Loving Borders and Growing Spirituality
Option B: On-Site Program Core On-Site Curriculum (Offered through the National Association of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd)
The student must take Levels of Training I, II, and III in order to earn the Montessori-based degree program in catechesis. Each Level of Training consists of 90 hours of instruction and training at on-site venues (Catholic parishes throughout the country and throughout the year). The curriculum and venues are listed on the website of the National Association of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and students may enroll at any time. To complete this degree, the student must present to Cloverdale College a photocopy of the Certificate of Completion for all three Levels of Training and write a paper of 3,000-3,750 words (12-15 pages) explaining the meaning and significance of the Montessori-based catechesis training program and its relevance to the student’s own spiritual life and ministry.
