Graduation 2010 Review
The Convocation and Graduation festivities this year were grand as always and the Foundation is pleased to offer its congratulations to the 106 students in the 2010 graduating class. Over one dozen languages, 15 nations and over 20 faith traditions were represented in this year’s graduating class of the Foundation and its undergraduate division, Cloverdale College. Additionally, ten degree programs were represented.
On Thursday, May 6, The Very Reverend Dr. John Moses delivered the lecture in the Foundation’s annual Lord Robert Runcie Lecture Series. Dean Emeritus of St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, Dr. Moses spoke for an hour on the topic of being a theologian in the world today and the execution of the “priestly task,” a responsibility relevant to all faith traditions. His lecture was heard in the Bendix Theatre at the Century Center in downtown South Bend, Indiana, and followed by a Social Hour in the Great Hall where students, their guests, Foundation administration and special guests of the Foundation were able to mingle and converse.
During the Graduation ceremony on May 7, three honorees were inducted as Honorary Fellows of the Foundation, the highest honor the Foundation can bestow upon a scholar who is not a member of the faculty. They were Dr. John Moses, Dr. Chris Day of Oxford University Department for Continuing Education, and Rabbi Dr. David Aaron of Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Doctor of Divinity (D.D.) honoris causa was awarded to Dr. Moses in honor of his distinguished years of service as a priest in the Church of England and as Dean of Saint Paul’s Cathedral in London. Dr. Day delivered the 2010 Graduation Address and spoke on the topic of Oxford University’s history of continuing education. In recognition of his contributions to England as an educator and historian, he was awarded a Doctor of Laws (L.L.D.) honoris causa. The 2010 Krister Stendahl Medal was awarded to Rabbi Dr. David Aaron in recognition of his outstanding scholarship in the field of Biblical Studies.
Ms. Kim Ferraro, Esquire, was the recipient of the 2010 Cloverdale College Community Service Award which was presented in acknowledgement of her dedication to exposing corporate environmental abuses and protecting the citizens of Indiana through her work as Executive Director of the Legal Environmental Aid Foundation of Indiana, Inc. (LEAF).

Collegiate‐level Teaching Appointments
During the Foundation’s years of providing doctoral‐level degree programs, many graduates have received university, college, and seminary teaching appointments. In order to share that information with alumni/ae and current students, the Foundation has chosen to now post such teaching appointments on the website. Presently, there are over 230 of our graduates who hold such teaching appointments at over 200 U.S. institutions and 40 foreign institutions. Alumni/ae who hold a teaching appointment at a college or university which is not listed on the roster should email that information to the Foundation so that it may be included. For the roster, visit the homepage and click on “About GTF” and then on “Alumni/Careers. ”
New Study Options
The Graduate Theological Foundation now offers Distance Learning Modules to aid those students for whom the financial and/or time demands of traveling to educational venues prove inconvenient. This educational model uses a creative combination of media including audio cassettes, video cassettes, CDs, and required readings. Each Distance Learning Modules is valued at one Unit of Study. Materials selected for inclusion in our Distance Learning Modules have been identified from both professional and academic media sources.
The student will use the information provided in the media materials to formulate a paper dealing with the topic of the module. Papers should reflect on the material covered in the course and its applicability to the student’s personal life and work and/or professional ministry. Media materials are provided to our students for ninety (90) days. All materials must be returned (undamaged) to the Graduate Theological Foundation along with the response paper in order to receive academic credit. Distance Learning Modules are available in the following subject areas: Religious Studies; Philosophy; Social Ethics; Political Theory; Economic Theory; Psychology; and Spanish Language Ministry.
A complete listing of available DLM courses and requirements can be found on the Venue Study Options page.
