Vivian Robles Dettbarn-Slaughter, D.S.M.

 

Vivian Robles Dettbarn-Slaughter is Professor of Sacred Music and a Fellow of the Foundation.  Dr. Dettbarn-Slaughter is on the music faculty at the University of Findlay, and is a recipient of the Elizabeth Gupta Award for Excellence in Teaching in the Fine Arts.  She holds a Bachelor’s degree in piano from the University of California at Santa Barbara, a Master’s degree in Music Education with vocal emphasis from the Appalachian State University, and earned her Doctor of Sacred Music degree from the Foundation in 2001.  She also completed doctoral graduate work in vocal performance and music history at Memphis State University. Dr. Dettbarn-Slaughter is on the music faculty at the University of Findlay.  She served as chair of the music department at Adrian College, where she taught applied music, music history, and honors courses dealing with music and society.  She has taught at Appalachian State University, where she was assistant director of the university chorale. While doing graduate work at Memphis State University, she was a vocal coach in the opera department and taught applied music. Most recently, she served as the Director of Music Ministries and organist for the Adrian Dominican Sisters in Michigan. She has also served several churches in California, Tennessee and North Carolina. She has performed with orchestras, opera companies and in recital as a singer, chamber musician and pianist in the United States, Canada and Europe. Dr. Dettbarn-Slaughter is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, The National Association of Schools of Music, the College Music Society, Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, and Sigma Alpha Iota National Women’s Music Fraternity . Her music is published by Alliance Publications, Inc.
