D. Jonathan Watts is John Wesley Professor of Homiletics and Biblical Studies. Dr. Watts received his Bachelor of Arts from Southern Wesleyan University in Theological Studies and his Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology, Emory University. Dr. Watts completed a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary with a project titled, Genesis to Jesus to You: A Story Journey for Christian Education. His Doctor of Philosophy degree is from the Graduate Theological Foundation and his dissertation led to the publishing of, Gospeltelling to a Digital Culture: The Forensic Reconstruction of a Good Story. Dr. Watts also authored a book titled, The Battle Lines of Worship: Finding a Place for Truce and Trust, which explores the history of worship in the Judeo-Christian communities and the tensions between the varied styles of worship prevalent in the post-modern church. Dr Watts received two teaching excellence awards during the 2009-2010 academic year. For his leadership and teaching excellence, Dr. Watts was selected to be a member of the Class of 2009 Chancellor’s Award for Alabama Community College System. Dr. Watts also received an International Award for Teaching Excellence at the 2010 International Conference of NISOD (National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development) through the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Watts is an Elder in the United Methodist Church and currently teaches Religion and Ethics at Snead State Community College. He teaches two E-Tutorial courses: Communicating the Gospel to a Post-Literate, Digital Culture and “Right” Worship in the Post-Modern World.
